Rated 5 out of 5 by Carlow61 from So easy! It was so hard to open my living room curtains. Decided to try changing them to grommets myself and was surprised at how easy it was to put the grommets on. Such a pleasure opening and closing the curtains now!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Becky26 from Grommets This is the second time I have used grommets while making drapes for my grandsons. Drapes came out pretty good. Grommets were sometimes a little bit difficult to snap together, but all in all they worked great for me.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Amanda from Great for lightweight curtains! I love the look of grommets, but found that the using the tool and metal grommets are too difficult and pricey to try and DIY. I purchased these Dritz grommets hoping for a simple solution, and was surprised with how easy they were to use, and how great they looked! Once up on the curtain rod, you wouldn't know they weren't professionally made. They worked well with a lighter-weight jacquard fabric I used, but when I tried them again in a chenille, they didn't quite snap together. Even though they didn't work in the heavier fabric, I would still recommend these! As long as your fabric isn't too thick, they are a great alternative to an expensive, difficult to use, industrial grommet tool!

Rated 3 out of 5 by Grandma from Plastic grommets These are pretty pricey for plastic. They are easy to work with and are easily removed. I was dismayed to discover they can't go into the dryer!

Rated 3 out of 5 by Kathy from I wish I could still find the grommets in all colors. I had to settle for white. No white even in the stores so I had to order on line and wait for a week and shipping was as much as the item.

    FAQs

How many inches should be between grommets on curtains? ›

Generally, grommets are spaced about 6 inches apart on center. The first and last grommet are inset the space needed for the return to the wall, and in front of the window at the leading edge. If there is a window frame, blinds or shades on the window, you will want the spacing to clear what is behind the rod.

What size rod is best for grommet curtains? ›

Measure the grommet opening on your curtain panels, not including the metal rim, then subtract ½ inch from that number. This is the maximum curtain rod diameter that you can choose. Choose finials that complement your grommet curtain style and room décor.

How do I know what size grommet I need? ›

One way that you can determine what size rubber grommet you need is to measure the panel. Specifically, you will need to determine the thickness of the panel, the hole size where the grommet will be applied, and the size of the object that will be going through that hole.

How much wider should grommet curtains be than the window? ›

Grommet style or Rod-pocket style: To ensure that curtain panels look ample when closed, they should have a combined width that is 2 to 2.5 times the width of the window/rod. The total drapery width should be at least 2 times the window/rod widths.

How far from the edge should a grommet be? ›

When grommets are specified for the top and bottom edges, we assume that the initial grommets will be set on the ends of the specified edge. The centers of these end grommets are always one inch from the edge of the tarp as shown in the following image.

What is the diameter of a curtain grommet? ›

Grommets are available in many diameters but the most commonly used is approximately 1 5/8”.

How to keep grommet curtains evenly spaced? ›

I would attach a thin piece of ribbon between each pair of grommets that allow the pleat to be the space that you need. Use the same length of ribbon on all of them. Then when you close the curtain all the pleats will be the same space.

What does a curtain grommet look like? ›

Grommet curtains have metal rings that are punched into the fabric at the top of each curtain panel.

Why are grommet curtains so popular? ›

    Grommet Curtains

The grommet rings allow parts of the rod to show for a striking look and create a rippled effect fold when you feed them on to the rod, so they forming uniform pleats without training your drapes.

Should curtains touch the floor? ›

In general, yes, it's best for curtains to touch the floor, either by kissing the floor or floating just above it. The effect of long, floor-length curtains is a luxurious look that accentuates the height of your window and ceiling. Plus, it makes the drapery look tailored and curated specifically for your space.

How long should curtains hang below the window sill? ›

In this case, you should measure up to 1cm before the window sill to ensure that the curtains do not drag. However, a more common style would be for curtains to hang slightly below the window sill and we would recommend measuring anywhere between 10cm to 20cm below the sill to provide sufficient privacy in most cases.

How do you calculate grommet spacing? ›

Measure the width of your new curtain paenls. ((Curtain Width in Inches) – 5) / 7 = The Distance between each of your grommets. Now this works only if you start the center of your first grommet 2.5″ from both sides. Then you space your grommets X inches apart measuring from the center of one, to the center of the next.

How high do you hang 84 inch curtains with grommets? ›

If you are interested in a curtain with grommet tops, there will usually be an inch and half of fabric above the top of the grommet. Therefore, an 84 inch length curtain with grommet tops will have an actual hanging height of around 82.5 inches.
