How many inches should be between grommets on curtains? ›

Generally, grommets are spaced about 6 inches apart on center. The first and last grommet are inset the space needed for the return to the wall, and in front of the window at the leading edge. If there is a window frame, blinds or shades on the window, you will want the spacing to clear what is behind the rod.

Measure the grommet opening on your curtain panels, not including the metal rim, then subtract ½ inch from that number. This is the maximum curtain rod diameter that you can choose. Choose finials that complement your grommet curtain style and room décor.

One way that you can determine what size rubber grommet you need is to measure the panel. Specifically, you will need to determine the thickness of the panel, the hole size where the grommet will be applied, and the size of the object that will be going through that hole.

Grommet style or Rod-pocket style: To ensure that curtain panels look ample when closed, they should have a combined width that is 2 to 2.5 times the width of the window/rod. The total drapery width should be at least 2 times the window/rod widths.

When grommets are specified for the top and bottom edges, we assume that the initial grommets will be set on the ends of the specified edge. The centers of these end grommets are always one inch from the edge of the tarp as shown in the following image.

Grommets are available in many diameters but the most commonly used is approximately 1 5/8”.

I would attach a thin piece of ribbon between each pair of grommets that allow the pleat to be the space that you need. Use the same length of ribbon on all of them. Then when you close the curtain all the pleats will be the same space.

Grommet curtains have metal rings that are punched into the fabric at the top of each curtain panel.

The grommet rings allow parts of the rod to show for a striking look and create a rippled effect fold when you feed them on to the rod, so they forming uniform pleats without training your drapes.

In general, yes, it's best for curtains to touch the floor, either by kissing the floor or floating just above it. The effect of long, floor-length curtains is a luxurious look that accentuates the height of your window and ceiling. Plus, it makes the drapery look tailored and curated specifically for your space.

How long should curtains hang below the window sill? ›

In this case, you should measure up to 1cm before the window sill to ensure that the curtains do not drag. However, a more common style would be for curtains to hang slightly below the window sill and we would recommend measuring anywhere between 10cm to 20cm below the sill to provide sufficient privacy in most cases.

Measure the width of your new curtain paenls. ((Curtain Width in Inches) – 5) / 7 = The Distance between each of your grommets. Now this works only if you start the center of your first grommet 2.5″ from both sides. Then you space your grommets X inches apart measuring from the center of one, to the center of the next.

If you are interested in a curtain with grommet tops, there will usually be an inch and half of fabric above the top of the grommet. Therefore, an 84 inch length curtain with grommet tops will have an actual hanging height of around 82.5 inches.
