Why You’ll Love These Dr Pepper Baked Beans
- Easy prep – no matter if you make this in the oven or slow cooker, it only takes less than 10-minutes to prepare.
- Flavor – the Dr Pepper adds amazing flavor this this baked bean recipe.
- Simple and versatile – simple ingredients are used that most people already have on hand and there are many options to change ingredients to whatever you prefer.
Ingredients You’ll Need
- Pork & Beans: You can use any brand.
- Bacon: Crispy and crunchy bacon is preferred.
- Brown Sugar: I like using brown sugar in my baked beans to add a sweet and rich flavor.
- Sauce Ingredients: BBQ Sauce, Yellow Mustard, and Worcestershire Sauce will give you sweet, tangy, and savory baked beans.
- Dr. Pepper: This will add a delicious and unique flavor to the recipe. You can use diet dr pepper if needed.
How To Make Dr Pepper Baked Beans
- Set the oven to 350 degrees. Add all the ingredients into a large bowl and combine until fully incorporated.
- Add the mixture into a large oven-safe skillet or in a 9×13-inch baking dish. Place into the oven for 2 hours depending on how you like your beans. If you want thick and stickier beans, keep them in for longer than 2 hours. If you like them saucier, keep them in for 1 1/2 hours or more until you reach your desired beans.
- Take them out of the oven and serve right away with any dinner or eat them by themselves.
Slow Cooker Method
For your slow cooker just pour the combined mixture into your slow cooker and cook on low for 3-4 hours or high for 2-3 hours.
Tips and Variations
- Bacon – Pre-cooked bacon is a huge time saver for this recipe. I personally like to make my bacon in the air fryer to make it extra crispy.
- Variations – switch of the “pork and beans” with a mixture of beans like pinto beans, red kidney beans and navy beans. Add 1/2 cup of vinegar for a tangier flavor.
- Spices – if you like a bit of a kick, add a Tablespoon of cayenne pepper.
- Replace the Dr Pepper – with different soda, you can try these Root Beer Baked Beans with Bacon. Any dark soda will work just as well too.
Serving
Baked beans are the perfect side dish for just about any meal. A few of our favorite dishes to make with a side of Dr. Pepper baked beans are slow cooker brisket, Dr Pepper ribs, Dr Pepper pulled pork, smash burgers, BBQ chicken and corn dogs.
